EXPLORE SPIRITUAL DIRECTION
A SPACIOUS PLACE FOR YOUR SPIRIT & SOUL, TO BREATHE ... TO BE KNOWN ... TO DISCOVER ...
WHAT IS SPIRITUAL DIRECTION?
Spiritual Direction involves one person prayerfully listening to the other person to help discern what God is saying in their life.
Spiritual Directors offer spiritual companionship to those interested in spiritual growth, through a fuller, deeper relationship with God, and receive specific training (usually 2-3 years).
“It is the space to explore the everyday ordinariness for the presence of God and workings of grace (precisely at those times when) nothing seems to be happening.” (Eugene Peterson, pastor and author of “The Message”)
WHO IS IT FOR?
Spiritual Direction is for anyone who has a desire to tend to their soul, and an openness to reflect, explore, and listen, in order to discern and respond to the ways God is speaking into their individual life.
I welcome those who are new to exploring their spiritual life, as well as those who have had an intimate relationship with God for decades!
Consider Spiritual Direction if you are:
wanting support in your spiritual life
seeking clarity & discernment
desiring depth in your relationship with God
finding your way and examining who "God" is
HOW DOES IT WORK?
A session is one hour, typically once a month. You set the frequency (some prefer every 2-3 weeks), and the sessions can be on going for as long as you like.
Our first meeting is consultation where we get to know each other and explore both what you are looking for and my approach to spiritual direction. This meeting is always free and helps us both decide if my practice is a good fit for where you are at.
Most meetings begin with me inquiring if the directee has brought something specific that they would like to talk about. If so I'll listen and ask questions intended to help create space for the person to connect with their own thoughts and feelings on the matter. I will also make observations and inquire about how the topic interfaces with the persons spiritual life. For example "Where do you see the Spirit in this?" or "How do you think God views this situation?" or "Have you talk to God about this?" The purpose is to grow awareness of the moments of one's own heart and the movements of the Spirit of God in the midst of life's challenges.
Sometimes a person comes into an appointment "doing fine" too rushed to have really considered what to talk about. At this point I will invite us to sit in silence for as long as the person wants. The idea is to playfully listen and reflect on what might be good to talk about. In my experience some of the most profound times have started with, "I have no idea what to talk about" followed by a short time of silence, and then launching into the start of a topic that just "came to mind".
I meet with directees on the phone, on zoom, and in person (in Ellensburg, WA).
